Our BBQ Bankroll Winners…

Two Men & A Barbie!
Backyard Bash is pleased to be sponsoring Bob and Barbie Balot and Kenny Peoples of Two Men & A Barbie BBQ at the North Kansas City BBQ Competition on March 14-15, 2008!
The Backyard Bash BBQ Bankroll Contest gave BBQ competitors a chance to win sponsorship, covering everything from the team’s entry fee to the meat they’ll be cooking. Below you’ll find a profile of Two Men & A Barbie, who jumped into the competition circuit in 2006 after watching a television show about BBQ teams. Make sure to watch for our follow-up article after the North Kansas City competition!
Team members: Bob and Barbie Balot, Kenny Peoples
How They Got Started: “There was a program on TV that spotlighted Lee and Bobbie McWright of the Music City Pig Pals, as well as Tom and Josh’s Orgasmic Slabs BBQ. Bob and Barbie thought about how much fun this would be. So we got online, found a contest that still had space available in Emporia, went and bought a couple of inexpensive smokers, asked Kenny if he would like to play, and off we went,” explains Bob.
Contest Experience: Two Men & A Barbie started in August of 2006 with three contests: Flint Hills, Florence, KS and Shawnee Great Grillers.
2007 Accomplishments:
Non-Sanctioned Local VFW Contest: 1st, Chicken and Brisket
HyVee Barry Road: 5th, Brisket
Lansing, KS: 8th, Pork
Great American BBQ: 11th in Ribs (Bob inadvertantly entered the team in this competition: “one of those late night party things,” explains Bob. Imagine his surprise when the entry packet showed up in the mail! But they still did amazing!)
Battle of the Brisket, Mission, KS: 4th, Chicken; 9th, Dessert
What they use: “We have our own rubs and sauce,” explains Bob, “all of which are in the process of getting to market.”
What they do outside of BBQ: Bob is in the construction business, Barbie is in collections, and Kenny is in the restaurant business.
2008 Plans: “We know that we will be doing 8 contests and we hope to add 5 more if possible,” says Bob.
Their favorite part of competition BBQ: “The other teams. The way they are willing to help out in any way they can. It’s like a giant family that all gets along.”
Future Plans: Bob and Barbie’s goal is to eventually open their own BBQ joint in the Florida area and to get their products in the market place by this summer.
